Custom patio decks, covered patios, and porch construction — built for how you actually want to use your backyard.
A patio extends your living space outdoors — a place to host, relax, or just get outside without leaving home. Holmes builds patio decks, patio enclosures, and covered porch structures for San Antonio-metro homeowners.
Every patio project starts with a conversation about how you want to use the space, followed by a written quote — no surprises once work begins.

A ground-level or elevated wood deck sized and laid out for how you’ll actually use the space.
Covered patio structures and porch construction for shade and weather protection over your outdoor space.
Framed and attached to hold up to San Antonio heat, storms, and seasonal swings.
Every patio project here starts with how you actually intend to use the space, because that answer drives everything after it. A spot for two chairs and morning coffee is a different structure from somewhere you plan to feed a dozen people. Shade in the afternoon matters more on one elevation than another. Where the door out of the house lands, where the grill ends up, whether you want steps down to the yard or a level walk-out — all of it changes the shape before anybody talks about a number.
It is a short conversation and it saves a lot of regret. People rarely regret the size of a patio they thought about; they regret the one that got built to a template.
Holmes builds both, and the choice is worth thinking through rather than defaulting. An open patio deck is the simpler build, and it keeps the sky. A covered structure — a patio enclosure or porch build — gives you shade and weather protection, which in practice is what decides whether an outdoor space gets used through the hottest part of a South Texas summer or sits empty.
There is a middle road too: build the deck now, framed and sized so a cover can be added later without tearing anything out. Say that out loud during the walk-around and we will plan for it.
Every Holmes job opens with a free, no-obligation estimate, and a patio build is no different. We look at where the structure would tie into the house, how the ground sits and falls away from it, what is already there and whether any of it is worth keeping, and what the roofline above is doing with rainwater.
It comes to you in writing, followed by a written quote covering the scope we actually recommend — before anybody starts. Nothing gets added that you don’t need. Financing is available through our Synchrony Financial partnership if you would rather spread the cost.
That is not a slogan; it is the practical reason to have this crew do the work. A cover has to shed water somewhere, tie into the existing structure without creating a new leak path, and stand up to the weather that comes through here. Roofing is the core of what Holmes does, and that is the experience a covered build draws on.
It also means we notice things on the way past. If the run of gutter above your future patio is already overflowing, or the roof edge needs attention first, you will hear it before we build under it rather than after. Everything else we handle is listed under roofing and home exteriors.
Size, material, finish, and whether a cover is included should all be on paper before work starts. Ask what is explicitly excluded, too — that is where surprises live.
A patio attaches to a building. Ask whether anybody actually examined the wall and the roofline it will tie into, or whether the price came off a drawing.
Texas issues no statewide roofing license, so local checks are the ones that count. Holmes holds San Antonio contractor registration HIC-24-00928 and carries General Liability & Workers’ Compensation.

No. The visit and the written estimate that follows it are free and carry no obligation, and you get the scope in writing before there is a number attached to anything.

Raise it during the walk-around. If you want the option open, say so before the quote is written so the build can be planned with that in mind rather than reworked afterwards.
Yes — deck construction, replacement, railing repair and refinishing are handled too. There is more detail on our deck installation and staining page.
Yes. Holmes finances through Synchrony Financial, and approval is based on you rather than on the type of work — once you are approved, it applies to your project. Worth raising while the written quote is still in front of you.
