Most fence problems announce themselves long before the fence comes down, and you can find them yourself in about ten minutes. Start at one corner and walk the whole run. Posts that lean, or that give when you push on them, are the ones doing the real work and failing at it. Boards gone missing, twisted, or drifted out of alignment with their neighbors usually mean the rail or the fastening behind them has let go.
Then check the bottom. Rot generally starts where wood meets dirt and moisture, so soft spots low on a post matter more than a weathered-looking board up top. South Texas hail season runs March through August — if a storm has been through your neighborhood, it is worth walking the fence line the same day you look at the roof.

If a storm took out a stretch behind the garage and the rest of the line is solid, that is a repair — a few sections, done properly, and you keep the fence you already paid for. If posts are failing along most of the run, patching one piece at a time becomes a slow, expensive way of replacing it anyway, and we will say so.
